Make a Wish remains the funniest fanfiction I have ever read.
The story follows Harry Potter shortly after learning about the prophecy. Convinced that he has little chance of surviving a confrontation with Voldemort, Harry decides that if he is going to die, he should at least enjoy life first. Using a fake identity, he sets off on a trip across Europe.
What follows is a masterpiece of misunderstandings.
Through a series of increasingly absurd coincidences, Harry accidentally develops a reputation as one of the most dangerous and feared dark lords in history. Every attempt to live a quiet life somehow results in people drawing the worst possible conclusions about his actions.
The story thrives on mistaken assumptions, rumors, and people connecting dots that were never meant to be connected. Each misunderstanding builds upon the previous one until the entire situation spirals completely out of control.
This is very much a crack fic, but it is a crack fic executed exceptionally well. The comedy comes not from random jokes, but from watching otherwise intelligent people confidently arrive at completely incorrect conclusions.
The result is a hilarious avalanche of errors, misunderstandings, and unintended consequences that never stopped making me laugh.
If you enjoy comedy fanfiction, this is one of the classics of the Harry Potter fandom and an easy recommendation.
